With a strong sales background, Karla Smith has a desire to see each of her clients not only happy but also successful in their projects. Karla’s experience, communication and follow-through add value to every transaction, and her client focus is evident in her strong relationships with them. Karla was a partner at UCR prior to its merger with CBRE in 2015.
She has specialized in big box tenant representation throughout the state of Texas for more than 15 years, as well as multi-market rollouts for various national retailers. She currently manages new store site selection for national and regional accounts such as Target, At Home, Sprouts Farmers Market, Macy’s, Pacific Dental Services, AT&T, Frost Bank and Luna Grill. Karla has also worked on extensive expansion strategies with Cabela’s, Pet Supplies Plus, Planet Fitness, Blockbuster, Fuddruckers, Core Power Yoga, United Health Group and Aarons Rent to Own.
In 2005, 2008 and 2013, Karla was named a Heavy Hitter by the Dallas Business Journal. In 2008, she was named a “Power Broker” by Real Estate Forum. In 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2016, Karla was voted in D CEO as one of the “best commercial real estate brokers in Dallas.” She has also received multiple CBRE | UCR Top Ten Annual Award recognitions.
Before joining UCR in 2003, Karla worked for Southwestern Bell as a Sales Manager and was honored with the Regional Top Achievement – Circle of Excellence Award in 1995, 1998 and 2002. She was in the top 5 percent of her sales management team and managed 60 sales reps for both the inside and outside sales divisions. Karla received her Bachelors degree in Psychology from The University of Texas at Dallas.
Karla is involved with industry organizations, including ICSC as the Texas Programs Committee Chair, CREW and NTCAR serving on the executive board from 2013-2015 and the Retail Committee Chair in 2013. Karla is also a founding member of Deals in Heels, a local networking group of professional women in retail real estate that educates and encourages the growth of women in the industry. Outside of the industry, Karla also enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors. She also actively participates in community service and volunteering. She enjoys contributing to organizations such as The Stewpot, the Salvation Army, Our Friends Place and Our Calling.
